"After 60 years, the instantly gratifying, unpredictable nature (which is half the charm) of the instant photo produced by a Polaroid camera has come to an end. According to an article in the Washington Post on the weekend, Polaroid have announced that they will be shutting down all factories in the United States and abroad as the company abandons the much loved instant photo technology in favor of products for digital hungry world. The company will cease production of its film by next year.

Even though the technology is flawed, even though the photos are rarely in focus, even though the colours are sometimes screwy and even though the cameras are kind of bulky and no where near as portable as modern day digital cameras, there will be a gaping hole in the photography world with the absence of this technology. There's an element of surrender when it comes to using a polaroid that will be forever lost and although I'm sure there's still bucket loads of "Polaroid style" filters that will try to imitate the original aesthetic, it will never be the same. ... i make nice, well portioned subs! and, may i say so myself, i baked some mighty fine bread tonight. they were so nice, they deserved a high five (thanks to david for reciprocating with my enthusiasm for bread-bake-age). nothing beats knowing you've cooked a nice batch of breads ... all puffy inside and crisp on the outside. okay. now excuse me while i go find a life.

i love bazaar on chapel. today i bought a fully functioning polaroid sun 600, cute bag, and a scarf. fun fun. i'm all ready to start taking photos again. holga unloaded and reloaded, taped up and ready to go. polaroid also all set to go. mind you, the loading sound scared the shit out of me. joy.

and: didn't know any of lost valentinos songs but it was still awesome. uffie was alright, you couldn't really hear her and tom thinks she lip synched. gameboy gamegirl - i'd never heard of before that day; they sound 'fun' and happy happy joy joy ... with hilarious lyrics; and the man stripped down to his knickers ... and he was fat. van she - sad because i think we missed out on half their show and the part that i did see consisted of songs i didn't know, cept for kelly. cut copy - 'tis friggen awesome. de la soul - only went to top off the night - not my genre, so i really just stood there. went to hungry jacks afterwards. socialised. caught the tram home. wooohooo go tram line 57.
