a couple weekends ago i came across this metal magazine rack at a local savers for the small price of $4.99. bargain. d.i.y. spray-paint job? i think so. i love that something so simple can be salvaged so easily with a light coat of white matte spray paint.

my two second d.i.y. pin cushion job. may have overdone it with the floral teacup + saucer + strawberry fabric combo. too much? i thought so too. looks cuter without the saucer. i have another two of these teacup and saucer sets which i'll probably use to make some mini teacup candles.

book cover

i like to keep my books (and everthing else) in pristine condition. a creased book cover is a no go for the likes of me. i usually don't bring books around in my bag to prevent such occurrences. a friday night in coupled with some fabric prompted me to cater to the needs of my anal retentive disorder. the end result - this simple padded book cover. probably not the greatest of covers when it comes to book armor, but it will do for now. may add this design to our 'little hurricano' collection.

let's tie the knit

nikki gabriel has influenced me to knit myself some pieces for the coming winter season, or at least attempt to. i think i'll be having some fun with these knitting needles. literally, they're so big, you could do so many 'fun' things with them. okay, inappropriate. moving on. the knitting patterns are quite low in content for the $20 (each) price tag. i think i was sold by the simple packaging. i'm so easily influenced by good packaging. as you can see, i clearly have a thing brown paper bags. i kid you not. if i made a purchase and did not need a bag, but knew this particular store used paper bags, i'd request for one. i'm environmentally friendly like that. i have growing a stash. no particular use for them as yet, but they'll come in handy one day, i'm sure. i did purchase darning needles, however, i may have left them at the clegs counter as i darted to catch my tram. curses. will try to redeem them with my receipt tomorrow. eta: found them in my paper bag.

also purchased frankie. i used to buy this magazine religiously on a bi-monthly basis, but i began to love the magazine a little less due to their advertisements. i just think they should be a tad bit more selective with their ad clientele. i'd like to see an ad that appeals to me. i think only a minority, if any, of frankie readers dig the surf style. which begs the question - why plaster it all over the magazine? cater to your readers, frankie. that said, it's still a good read. and i'm thankful that the witty minds of mia timpano and benjamin law still linger here and there.

d.i.y. mini feather cape

initially i wanted something more like the hussy feather cape - big and fabulous. but then i thought about it, and opted for a smaller, more subtle feather cape - much more practical and wearable with my wardrobe. i may make a larger one later down the track, when i find a place that sells larger feathers. bought these feathers from KIS it better (thanks delilah) on greville street - sweet little shop. i personally like the cape better undone.

$2.99 school tunic

dropped by savers today in an effort to find another cheap blazer. i find it very difficult to find clothes that fit in the adults section, so you'll often find me browsing in the kids section. looks a bit suss ... going through kids clothing, especially in the 'school uniform' racks. nevertheless, i found a cute little school tunic for a mere $2.99. now, if the tunic actually fit me, i would have left it as is and added bits here and there. however, my upper half is apparently larger than a 6 year old's. so i did a little unstitching, added a couple buttons and wallah! a magnificent little preppy piece that i will be strutting around in sometime soon. i bought the buttons a while ago from clegs, but didn't have a use for them ... all i knew was i had to have them. they definitely came in handy. love.

frog case

so this is my first attempt at making an 8 inch case. i still think it's not up to par. no fear, there's plenty of cute frog material left. i'll make another one possibly tomorrow (also 8 inch), see how that goes.

d.i.y. studded top

as per previous blog entry, i wanted to make a studded tee. unfortunately i only had a long singlet thing, the tee will have to wait. initially wanted a big triangle, similar to the white trumpet tee ... making the tee sag. however, this top wasn't baggy enough for the effect, so i settled for this pattern instead.

used a kids stud pack bought from lincraft. the studs are not as sturdy on the top as i had hoped, but that may be due to the flimsy fabric. nevertheless, this is the end result.

this is one of the limited times that i've actually finished making something. anyway, i'm quite happy with the results. i was going to buy a different chains to play around with, but given i give up on making things when they start to get tideous - i figured i'd just stick with the one. the back is really simple, i would've played around with it a little more, but i don't have a mannequin. i am a happy chap.
