socket deer

"These electrical outlet covers let you put your mobile phone on the wall as it recharges. The antlers for all three types of deer are already the perfect shape to hold things, so we hardly had to modify the forms at all. The tough urethane rubber we used for the cover holds handsets tightly, and also protects the antlers from breakage should you bump into them. Socket-deer can also be used as a cover for light switches, and the antlers make an excellent hook for keys or accessories." - nendo

fleet ilya

love this bag by fleet ilya. their items are definitely interesting. classic AW/08 seems innocent enough, concept AW/08 is amazing, restraint ... well, that's where it gets interesting. i suggest you go to the site and see for yourself. stockists in london, so being in australia - i'm feeling a tad deprived. that said, you can purchase the shoulder bag on glitzern.com.au for quite the pretty penny.

to die for

disce mori is nothing short of magnificent. came by a few of julia deville's pieces at e.g.etal and at an rmit gallery a couple months back (alice euphemia also stock them). she combines traditional gold and silversmithing with materials that were once living (jet, petrified wood, human hair and taxidermy). perhaps not for everyone, but definitely worth a look for those who enjoy a touch of morbidity in their daily lives. i especially love the mechanical wing brooch.
"i incorporate the symbols of death throughout my work because i think it is important to identify with the concept that we are in fact, mortal creatures. the nature of our culture is to obsess over planning the future, however in doing so, we forget to enjoy the present. i consider my taxidermy to be a celebration of life, a preservation of something beautiful." - julia
note: pieces are made with animals that have died of natural causes.

route

andy: i love my phone's gps
me: oooh, show show
andy: -fiddles with phone-
me: can it give you a route too?
me and andy: -pause-
andy: it'd be a mighty awesome phone if it could give me a root.

tragus piercing

me: so what are the chances that you will hit a nerve?
piercer 1: none. no chances of hitting a nerve in the tragus.
me: ... cos i know there is a possibility of hitting a nerve on the rim
piercer 1: don't worry. it should be fine.
me: -passed on to piercer 2-
piercer 2: -marks ear-
me: can you pierce it further in?
piercer 2: we tend not to pierce too far in just in case it hits a nerve

lesson 1: do not trust piercers
lesson 2: tragus piercings are not as painful as nose rings

  2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
  3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
  4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch!
  5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
  6. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
  7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
  8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
  9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
  10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
  11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
  12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.

  35. Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
  36. Growing old beats the alternative — dying young.
  37. Your children get only one childhood.
  38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
  39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
  40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s,we’d grab ours back.
  41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
  42. The best is yet to come.
  43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

beatpoet ties

the creators of this label will be visiting melbourne this thursday at alice euphemia on flinders lane. it's a mens clothing brand, but i will be attending regardless. see what the boys have designed for us this season. a friend of mine (dara ing, watch out for him in the next few years - he will, without a doubt, be successful in the fashion industry) told me about their genius to-attach collar designs. it's pretty sweet - you can detach the collar to change the style. oh how smart designs tickle me.

tattoo

i want a text tattoo like this. perhaps a biblical verse (reference) relating to cause and effect, or in more colloquial terms, 'what goes around, comes around' or 'you reap what you sow': -
"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life." - Galatians 6:7-8

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." - Romans 8:28

"The wind blows to the south and goes around to the north; around and around goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns. All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again." - Ecclesiastes 1:6-7
needless to say, i need to do a little more research into this before i permanently ink a biblical verse on my body. also considering having the verse reference written in aramaic script (Jesus' primary language, although whether or not it was hebrew or aramaic is debatable). may even have the tattoo written in a rotating circle to reflect the 'going around-ness', depending on which verse i choose. we shall see.

d*face interview

" ... and i've seen a lot of people come in to it do some cool stuff and try and do it quite avidly, and then realise after a year they realise it takes longer than a year, and after two years they've given up and become a DJ or whatever ... they become a fucking inline skater or whatever they think is the next thing to be cool and they can be into. it takes you to go out and do it. there are people out there who say 'oh, i wish i did street art' - well then go and do it. what's stopping you? there's nothing stopping you." - d*face

"My work explores the idea of mortality and makes reference to closely associated topics such as the pursuit of the transcendental dimension, the notion of bereavement and the complexity of emotions that loss evokes. I am heavily influenced by folklore, mythology and the idea of narrative. I aim to tell a story through my work, to construct a fanttasy that will create intrigue and lure the viewer into a world of my own creation" - stolenspace

oscar diaz ink calendar

"Oscar Diaz’s Ink Calendar has taken the month by storm — one ink blot at a time. After its initial display at the Diseño con alma de agua (Design of Water with a Soul) exhibition at Madrid’s Círculo de Bellas Artes, the Ink Calendar’s unusual technique of using capillary action to ‘stain’ each day of the month has reignited the design world’s senses. That humidity may render the ‘calendar’ inaccurate, but this should be ignored since it’s brilliant and utterly beautiful." - jessie cheung @ lostateminor.com
